Lunch serving at San Jose Family
Supportive Center
My overall experience with the lunch service was really good. At first
though, I felt so stressed out and nervous when we were planning everything. I
didn’t know if everything was going to go smoothly or whether we were going to
totally fail. But lucky, with lots of help from our whole troop things went
well.
The day before that actual service, we prepared most of our food that
would take up a lot of time. A lot of the girls and a few parents came to
supervise and we spent almost the whole day cooking. I’m glad we spent a lot of
time on the food because it came out tasting good. We had a lot of laughs and
fun too.
During the day of the lunch service we got there early and hauled in all
the food. Every girl had her own assigned task and we worked together to put
the final touches on our food. We were done preparing a little early so it took
some time for people to start showing up. I was sweating waiting for people to
walk in. I got scared that more people would show up than planned and we
wouldn’t have enough food or if we wouldn’t have enough food to feed our troop.
And as it turned out, less people showed up than expected.
As we were passing out our food, we received numerous thanks and smiles
from people. It felt really nice to give back to the community and be
appreciated for it. We were putting smiles on people’s faces by just doing one
simple thing. It was truly heartwarming.
If I could work at the housing center again I definitely would. The
atmosphere there is welcoming and warm. The staffs are also very friendly and
helpful. I had a lot of fun working with my scouts and leaders. I learned a lot
about how much work is put into planning events. It was an unforgettable
experience.
